These buttons are too good to have been found on convicts clothing; rather they would have been on a warden’s uniform. Convict buttons were plain bone,metal or wood sew-throughs.

Thanks for your input Cathy. It was my mistake entirely. The dealer did tell me that they could have been worn by the crew but this clinches it.
